Sustainable development

Royal Émeraude has been part of Dinard's heritage since 1892. This heritage, rich in values and a history intimately linked to its environment, encourages us to adopt a resolutely sustainable approach at the heart of our business.

Out of a deep-seated conviction and a sense of responsibility to future generations, Royal Emeraude is committed to minimising its impact on the environment, supporting the local community and raising its customers' awareness of sustainable development issues.

Our commitment to Royal Émeraude

Our commitment at Royal Émeraude focuses on three main areas :

Minimising our impact on the environment :

  • Training our teams in the challenges of sustainable tourism
  • Promoting soft mobility: bike hire, sea buses, etc.
  • Raising awareness of sustainable and social issues among our partners and suppliers
  • Saving water and energy: micro-filtered water jugs, energy-saving toilets, LED light bulbs, presence detectors, light switch-off devices, change of sheets and towels on request, etc.
  • Sorting and limiting waste: selective sorting bins, no disposable crockery, elimination of single-use plastic packaging, donation of office equipment to recycling centres, etc.
  • Sustainable food: local, seasonal, organic and/or fair trade products
  • Aromatic garden for cocktails
  • Donation of lost property to associations after a year without news

Support the local community and the local economy :

  • Favouring local products and local service providers
  • Support local associations
  • Organising events and activities that highlight local culture and heritage

Raising our customers' awareness of sustainable development issues :

  • Providing information on our sustainable initiatives
  • Encouraging customers to adopt eco-action

Offer workshops and activities on the theme of sustainable development

Eco-actions to adopt at the hotel and in Dinard

As a guest, you too can contribute to our responsible approach by following these eco-gestures at Royal Émeraude and during your strolls along the Dordogne coast:

Water : Don't change your sheets or towels unnecessarily, take short showers, turn off the water when soaping up.

Energy : Maintain a room temperature of 19°C in winter and 24°C in summer, turn off lights and air conditioning when you leave your room, close the shutters at night.

Transport : Use soft means of transport to explore the surrounding area, hire a bike from Véloc'Ouest or Breizh cycles.

Waste management : Sort your rubbish in the bins provided, don't throw anything other than toilet paper down the toilet, use water bottles and cloth bags for your shopping and picnics, refuse plastic straws.

Shopping : Favour local and bulk products, buy organic food.

Cleanliness of green spaces : Respect the environment, don't throw anything on the ground, take part in beach clean-up days, sort your recyclable waste

Responsible activities : Favour 'soft' activities such as hiking, choose service providers committed to sustainable tourism such as restaurants, shopkeepers or the Lancieux sailing club.

Respect for nature : Stay on the paths, do not disturb the vegetation or animals, respect the flora and fauna, respect private property.

Our partner BioLit

Keen to protect the marine environment that surrounds us, Royal Emeraude is proud to be associated with BioLit, a national participatory science programme dedicated to the conservation of coastal biodiversity. In collaboration with Planète Mer and the Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, BioLit invites the general public to get involved in monitoring and protecting our coasts.

BioLit aims to :

  1. Improve knowledge of the coastline : By collecting observations on marine species and habitats, scientists can better understand the state of health of our coasts and identify areas requiring special protection.
  2. Involving as many people as possible : BioLit is open to everyone, whatever their level of scientific knowledge. It offers simple tools and training so that everyone can contribute to the collection of valuable data.
  3. Contributing to environmental and societal issues : The data collected by BioLit is used to inform public policy and conservation actions, thereby contributing to environmental protection and the well-being of coastal communities.

The ocean plays a crucial role in the balance of our planet. It produces much of our food, absorbs large quantities of CO2 and releases the oxygen we breathe. Yet this fragile ecosystem is facing a host of threats: destruction of marine biodiversity, overfishing, global warming, rising sea levels, pollution, etc. Faced with these urgent challenges, it is vital to take action to protect our oceans.

Royal Émeraude encourages its customers to take part in this programme by :

  1. Taking part in guided observations : Outings organised by BioLit facilitators are regularly offered to discover the biodiversity of the coastline and learn how to identify species.
  2. Making your own observations : You can observe nature at your leisure and share your observations on the BioLit platform.
  3. Support the programme : You can make a donation to BioLit to help it continue its conservation work.
